Swiss Art Brut — The Collection from its Origins to the Present Day
Art Brut resists refinement — and this book is built to honour that resistance. An overview of the most significant collection of Art Brut, founded by Jean Dubuffet and now housed at the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne, the book works to embody the movement’s principles in its production values. The format — smaller than a conventional art book, larger than a book of texts — is itself a deliberate displacement. Ten illustrated essays alternate with two curated sections of works from the collection; a facsimile of Dubuffet’s transcript Swiss Trip is inserted on RC Ecoline Brown 80gsm, a fibrous, textured paper that echoes the character of the original document. Typography reinforces the disruption: GT Super Display heads each section, set large enough to dominate the page; essays are set in Fakt Pro, a humanist sans serif — a reversal of the convention that reserves serifs for body text; Alto Mono Pro carries all captions and notes. Printed 4×4 on Munken Polar 130gsm throughout, with a Sirio Colour Red soft cover and a matte foil-stamped title.
